Rye Boy Scout Troop 2 was chartered around 1920 (historical records of our early days are limited) and hence has been active in the Rye, NY area for over 100 years.
We are a large and very active Troop, generally comprised of approximately 45 scouts in grades 6-12 from Rye, NY and surrounding areas. While the largest portion attend Rye public schools, we also have many scouts who attend independent and parochial schools, as well as public schools in surrounding suburbs.
We meet every Wednesday night that Rye City Schools are in session, from 7:30 to 9:00 PM in the Parish Hall of our chartered organization, Christ’s Church, Rye. Although we are charted by the Church, our Troop is non-denominational and welcomes scouts of all faiths.
In addition to our weekly meetings we typically have activities on at least 2-3 weekends each month, such as tent and cabin campouts, backpacking trips, day hikes, community service projects, merit badge sessions and the like. We generally attend summer camp for two weeks each summer and often also take a “high adventure” trip of some kind.
We are a “boy led” troop and make a concerted effort to allow our scouts to select, plan and execute as many of our meetings and activities as possible. We also encourage them to serve in “positions of responsibility” to hone their leadership skills.
We thankfully have a large and active group of parents who volunteer in leadership roles with the Troop, but always welcome more!
